PATHMAKERS: Discover Your Purpose Through Service
As Christians, serving is an important step in our journey of faith. At Houston’s First, we call our volunteers PATHMAKERS because they help remove barriers and guide others toward a relationship with Jesus. By serving, you become an integral part of our mission to share God’s love and message.
Whether you feel led to serve as a greeter for Sunday services, with our students, or in one of our adult ministries, or beyond, there is a place for you. We encourage you to begin the PATHMAKER process today!
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be a member of the church to become a PATHMAKER?
While membership is required, other serving opportunities are open to regular attendees. Roles involving children, students, and special needs adults have additional requirements, including a background check, church membership, Safeguarding training, and six months of involvement (such as in a Life Bible Study or Equip class).
How do I start the PATHMAKER process?
Simply complete the registration form online. We separate applications for serving opportunities into those that are more accessible (like Adult Ministry opportunities and other support roles) and those that are more restricted (serving with children, students, and special needs adults). Choose the area that best fits your interest, complete an application, and a ministry leader will follow up with you about next steps.
How much time does serving require?
Time commitments vary depending on the role. Some positions may require a weekly commitment, while others are more flexible. Our team will work with you to find a role that fits your schedule.
What if I am not sure where I want to serve?
That is completely okay! Take our free Spiritual Gifts Assessment to gain insight into your God-given gifts, passions, and personality traits. This tool will help you identify areas where you can serve most effectively and joyfully!
Is training provided?
Yes, we provide training and resources to equip you for your serving role. This ensures you feel confident and prepared to serve effectively.
Will I need a background check?
Background checks are required for certain ministries, such as those serving with children, students, or vulnerable populations.
What if I want to serve with a friend or spouse?
We love that! Many teams welcome friends or couples serving together.
