About Kelton Washington
My name is Kelton Washington. I’m a practicum student at Houston Christian University—under the supervision of Myles Schutte, LPC-S. Born and raised in Houston, TX, I’ve been a Jesus-follower since childhood, serving in Worship & Creative Arts for most of my life—the dual passions of which led me to obtain a B.M. from Berklee College of Music (in Professional Music) and a M.F.A from Boston Conservatory (in Musical Theater). My unexpected journey to becoming a Christian Counselor emerged from the soil of my own personal brokenness, repentance, and ongoing transformation. Having now tasted the compassion of the Father, I feel compelled to share the comfort I’ve received from God with those who are yet searching for the hope, healing, and abundant life Christ paid for all of us to experience. In addition to individuals, couples and families, I have a special place in my heart to counsel people who experience unwanted sexual behaviors/addictions, same-sex attraction, gender dysmorphia, identity issues, and anxiety—helping them to navigate these unique challenges with grace and truth.
Through the lens of a biblical worldview, my therapeutic approach draws from a variety of evidence-based modalities—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Core Pattern Therapy (ACPT). Additionally, I’m a Certified SYMBIS Assessment Facilitator and a member of the American Association for Christian Counselors (AACC).
In my leisure time, I enjoy taking nature walks and eating Tex-Mex with my bride, exercising, reading, journaling, napping, painting, bird watching (cardinals are my favorite), visiting the cinema, laughing with family and friends, listening to podcasts, and savoring the sounds of jazz and showtunes.
